Burning Yucca

In 2012, Mitsu Overstreet unveiled “Burning Yucca,” a 400 sq ft, temporal mixed media mural adorning the exterior of The El Paso Museum of Art. A centerpiece in the exhibition “Inquisitive Eyes, Desert Modern and Beyond: El Paso Art 1960 – 2012,” the museum initiated this project to showcase Overstreet’s public art prowess. Inspired by his collaborative ventures in abstract aerosol mural installations, Overstreet brought together past collaborators Noah MacDonald and Mike Graham, crafting a site-specific work using aerosol, latex, and self-adhesive vinyl. This iconic work, the first mural on the museum’s exterior, not only enriched the exhibition but also paved the way for local muralists to grace the City’s main cultural institution.
