Inspired by the Rio Grande, the stylized terrazzo river design spans the 10,000 square foot baggage claim area at the El Paso International Airport. One particularly important part of the project is the community element. 250 phrases were collected and engraved on zinc medallions. These phrases made of short quotes from visitors to the El Paso International Airport and all over the region were under the themes of “What they love” about the El Paso Region or their “favorite memory”. They were embedded across the whole installation inviting the airport community to explore the positive messages throughout the river design while waiting for their baggage.
